Troops of the Colombian Navy in two joint and coordinated operations with the National Army and the National Police, find machinery used for the illegal extraction of mining sites and arrested two people in the Department of Bolivar and Antioquia.
In the first operation, carried out by troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion no. 17 and units of the National Police, on the Magdalena River near the sector known as La y de Los Mangos, general area of the municipality of Noros铆, Bolivar, it was possible the finding and destruction of two excavators valued at more than 600 million pesos; it was in the same way possible the arrest in of two individuals, who were caught manipulating this machinery.
Simultaneously in a joint operation along with the National Army, on the nech铆 River near the municipality of Bijagual, in the municipality of Nech铆, Antioquia, it was possible to find a backhoe when it was transported on a bongo-type boat.
With the machinery found, these individuals apparently carried out activities of exploration and illicit exploitation of minerals, causing serious damage to the environment and pollution of these two important water tributaries of the country. The persons arrested and the material found, were put into custody of the authorities.
The Colombian Navy once again reaffirms its commitment to the protection of the environment, in the frontal fight against the factors of instability, organized armed groups and persons who commit crimes. The Navy Infantry Brigade No.1 is guaranteeing the safety and good physical condition of the inhabitants of the Magdalena and Nech铆 rivers.
