Units of the Colombian Navy evacuated an indigenous woman, of the Puerto Pizario indigenous reserve on the banks of the San Juan River in the department of Chocó, to the Buenaventura Special District Valle del Cauca.
As part of the assistance given to the communities in the Sailing to the Heart of the Pacific - San Juan campaign, medical staff saw the risk of a 35-year-old woman, eight months pregnant, who had gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, a diagnosis that put her life and the baby's at risk.
Facing the threat of a high-risk pregnancy, immediately men of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2 a medical team of the Buenaventura Medical Dispensary travelled by helicopter to provide primary care to the woman, consisting of fetal and maternal monitoring, intravenous water support, monitoring of blood pressure and vital signs to keep her stable during the flight.
After landing, the woman was taken in an ambulance of the Buenaventura Fire Department, to a hospital of the Special District, where they provided specialized medical assistance.
