The Colombian Navy in maritime operations attended fishermen's emergency in the early morning hours of Monday, November 28, 2022, in Quitasue帽o Cayo, in the Archipelago department, where the rudimentary fishing boat identified as Mar Azul, was allegedly assaulted while conducting fishing work in the sector.
The Naval Institution received the information on the possible assault, by the operator of the Control Tower and Maritime Traffic of the Port Authority of San Andr茅s Islas, which through the maritime agent of the institution became aware of a boarding by seven armed men traveling on another boat, who would have stolen the product of the daily fishing equivalent to two tons of lobster, two engines, navigation and communication equipment, as well as crew belongings.
Immediately, Coast Guard Units of the Specific Command of San Andr茅s and Providencia went to the area to verify the situation, and to find the boat with its crew, without any loss in their good physical condition; the fishermen were escorted to a safe harbor in San Andr茅s Islands.
Colombian Navy carried out the relevant procedures in order to facilitate the identification of the alleged perpetrators and, at this time, the Navy continues to be in the area carrying out search operations.
The Specific Command of San Andr茅s and Providencia established communication with the authorities of the border countries to report the situation and conduct the operations to find the alleged perpetrators and the stolen items.
The Colombian Navy, through the Specific Command of San Andr茅s and Providencia, will continue to work for the maritime and land territories under its responsibility, deploying its Resources in the areas of responsibility.
