Units of the Colombian Navy provided support to the crew of the sailboat named Mist that entered an emergency, today afternoon, Monday, March 27th, in the Punta Grande sector, insular area of Cartagena.
The emergency occurred when the American-flagged sailboat ran aground in the insular area of Cartagena, apparently due to heavy weather conditions. Units of the Colombian Navy received the alert call of the Magno Ferry Boat that reported the ship's emergency to the Maritime Traffic Control Station.
Immediately, the Naval Institution deployed a Coast Guard unit to safeguard human life at sea of its two crew members and verify the situation in the sector. Once on the place, crew members of the Naval Institution checked the ship and after evaluating the meteorological and atmospheric conditions of the area, they established communication with the maritime agency to coordinate the evacuation of the personnel and the recovery of the sailboat. At this time, members of the Coast Guard corps conducted the accompaniment in the emergency area.
