During control operations in the Caribbean Sea, the Colombian Navy, in a maritime interception, seized 142 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride that were being transported by five Panamanians on board a ship.
Near the Gulf of Urabá, Colombian sailors detected a boat sailing suspiciously, so Coast Guard and surface units were immediately deployed to the area. The crew of the ship, noticing the activity of the authority, left some sacks and communications equipment at sea.
The quick reaction of the members of the Military Forces led to the interception of the blue ship, built of fiberglass and propelled by a 75-horsepower engine. Five Panamanians were found by troops on board.
The Coast Guard and the crew of the Costa ARC Patrol Boat Punta Espada recovered six sacks of the water, which, along with the boat and the arrested, were taken to the Coast Guard Station of Urabá, where personnel of the Technical Research Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test to the packages, testing positive for 142.4 kilograms of cocaine.
According to the information collected, it is presumed that these individuals would have been destined for Central America and that the illegal merchandise would have a cost of more than 4.8 million dollars in the international illegal market. Additionally, through this finding, the commercialization of more than 350 thousand doses of cocaine on the streets of the world was prevented.
