This finding prevented the circulation and consumption of nearly three million doses of cocaine and marijuana worldwide, stopping more than 500 new users.
The operation carried out by the Colombian Navy against drug trafficking organizations in the Colombian Pacific led to the interception of two boats and the finding of more than two tons of narcotics, which exceed 41 million dollars in international markets. Seven individuals, including three foreigners, were arrested and brought before the authorities.
The first finding was reported at night in the area of Tumaco-Nari帽o, when a ship of the Pacific Naval Force detected a boat moving at high speeds, suspiciously. Immediately, a rapid reaction unit of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station was sent, which began the maritime interception operation, in which after several minutes of pursuit, under complex visibility conditions, the boat manned by three Colombian nationals was stopped.
During the inspection of the ship, members of the Military Forces identified 51 black sacks, in which 1,007 packages were pressed. The boat, the three individuals and the cargo were taken to Tumaco, where officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Prosecutor's Office carried out the approved preliminary identification test that left positive result for 1,016 kilograms of cocaine.
Simultaneously, another Surface Unit (ship) detected a second boat manned by four individuals, which minutes earlier had sailed of the coast of Valle del Cauca. After an interception operation carried out by a Coast Guard Unit, it was intercepted and inspected, finding inside 40 sacks with 1,653 rectangular packages.
The boat, the cargo and the four individuals, including three foreigners, were transported to Buenaventura, where CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) officials determined that the substances transported corresponded to 1,110 kilograms of marijuana and 7 kilograms of cocaine.
The seven individuals were arrested, in Tumaco and Buenaventura respectively, and put into custody of the authorities and they will must face charges of trafficking, manufacturing and/or carrying narcotic substances.
With these findings, the Navy of Colombia managed to prevent the entry of more than USD$ 41 million in groups of dissidents of the FARC with interference in the department of Valle del Cauca and Nari帽o; this operation hits the logistical capacity to finance terrorist operations against Military Forces and civilians.
In the same way, with this blow to the drug trade, troops prevented the circulation and consumption of close to three million doses of cocaine and marijuana to a global level, which helps to prevent more than 500 new consumers, mitigating at the same time, overdose deaths and medical emergencies arising out of abuse of narcotic substances.
These important results against the transnational threat of illicit drug trafficking took place thanks to the continuous control and security operations at sea and in the rivers of the Colombian Pacific, carried out by units of the Colombian Navy and which, together with a robust Naval Intelligence, which lead to neutralize the routes used by drug traffickers to try to take narcotic substances to countries in the region.
