After three months of hard work to improve the infrastructure and adapt the District School of Taganga, Building Dumaruk, the municipality of Taganga receives the new and modern facilities of the educational center of the municipality.
The coordinated work conducted by the Navy of Colombia, the Embassy of the united States and with the support of the Port Society of Santa Marta, has led more than 500 students to benefit of the infrastructure improvements, lighting, adjustments of bathrooms, windows and doors of the education center to the benefit of the inhabitants of the municipality of Taganga in the department of Magdalena.
The presentation of the project was carried out in the District School Dumaruka and was attended by the representatives of the Embassy of the united States, Lieutenant Colonel James Creason and Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Jones, the Commander of the coast Guard Station of Santa Marta, Captain of Corbeta Jorge Camilo Torres Quiroga, the leader and Governor of the Indigenous Cabildo of Taganga Ariel Daniels and the principal of the Institution, Rafael Matos.
Men and women of the Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta worked continuously with students, teachers and local residents, who were actively linked with labor work, adaptation and beautification of classrooms and common areas used daily by the academic community for the process of education of young people, the Future of the region.
In this way, after the sustained effort conducted by the Naval Institution, the United states Government and private sector of Santa Marta, with the heavy support and commitment of the community, it was possible to materialize this meaningful initiative that helps to access and favourable conditions for the academic instruction of future generations of this municipality, populated mostly by fishermen and the ethnic indigenous group Tayrona.
The Bay of Taganga in addition to its striking natural landscapes, surrounded by a large bay, attractive to both locals and foreigners, has become in recent years a tourist place that has boosted the local economy of its inhabitants.
