This project will be carried out over the next decade in different phases, including the construction of the first frigate in Colombia.
At the facilities of the Colombian Navy Command in Bogotá, the contract was signed for the construction, integration, testing, and commissioning of the first Strategic Surface Platform Frigate (PES), a Colombian Ocean Patrol Ship (POC) and a Logistics Support Ship (BAL).
This milestone is part of a project that the Colombian Navy and Cotecmar had been working on since 2007, within the framework of the Naval Development Plan 2042 and a planned and knowledge-intensive industrial process, which will not only fulfill the duty to protect the maritime heritage of all Colombians, but in turn will contribute to the generation of thousands of jobs, the enhancing of productive linkages and the promotion of science and technology to strengthen the competitiveness and export capacity of the country's ships.
With these ships, the Colombian Navy will continue to contribute to the country, by providing care to the most vulnerable people in the seas, coasts and rivers of our homeland. In the same way, it will continue to promote the union of its own Institutions and State ones, civil and international partners, within the framework of the unified State operation with a view to promoting the comprehensive development of the territory for the benefit of the inhabitants, always respecting the cultural and ethnic diversity of the communities. In addition, these ships will led the Navy to use all its available resources and means to contribute to the protection of the environment and the national response to disasters and emergencies.
In the frame of this opportunity, COTECMAR will continue to evolve in its naval design and construction Resources, strengthening the research implemented, technological development and innovation through the execution of high technological impact projects that led Colombia to be a benchmark for the naval and shipbuilding industry in the world.
