In an initiative led by the Fishermen's Federation of the Island of San Andrés and Providencia, from April 17 to 21, units of the Colombian Navy accompanied a group of more than 80 Raizales fishermen, who sailed in 13 rudimentaryal boats from Providencia to Cayo Serrana, for social, cultural and scientific purposes.
While working to ensure the safety of the event, the Naval Institution had a Rapid Reaction Unit that accompanied the boats during navigation in approximately 81 nautical miles. In the same way the Missile Frigate ARC Antioquia was stationed in the area of Cayo Serrana exercising maritime control and alert to provide support in any need and / or emergency that the fishing productive groups could have during this activity.
This initiative was complemented by environmentalists, officials of the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina –CORALINA-, the Secretary of Agriculture and departmental Fisheries, among other institutions that accompanied the Providencia fishermen in their journey for the environment and the preservation of their customs.
