During the first quarter of 2022, the Pacific Naval Force, through the Buenaventura Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), has reported the arrest of 8 individuals who committed extortions in the Port City.
The decisive operation of the Military Forces against criminals in Buenaventura gives no respite; units of the Colombian Navy and the National Police, reported the arrest of two alleged members of the Shottas Substructure of the Organized Gang La Local, who intended to receive 30 million pesos from a merchant as a result of extortion in Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca.
The operation was carried out on the alternate way of the Locality 10, in Buenaventura, and was made possible thanks to the timely denunciation of the victim which led to the launch of an anti-extortion operation and trace the whereabouts of the two suspects at the time that they received the money. When they notice the work of the members of the Military Forces, the individual attempted to flee on a motorcycle but were arrested thanks to the quick reaction of the troops of the Unified operation Groups for Personal Liberty - Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Navy of Colombia in Buenaventura, and the National Police.
According to the intelligence information, the cash proceeding form the extortion would be used for the purchase of illegal weapons and explosives, which would attack the members of the Military Forces, the critical infrastructure of the State and intimidate the civilians in this region of the country.
During the operation, the motorcycle on which the individuals were traveling and the communication equipment they used to coordinate their criminal activities were found by troops. The arrested and the material were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office.
The Pacific Naval Force, through the Buenaventura Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), has carried out prevention and awareness campaigns through the distribution of information through different means and the Plan Presencia, intensifying efforts to reach all the people of Buenos Aires and in this way it works to ensure the security of its inhabitants and reduce crimes such as kidnapping and extortion.
