The Minister of Transport Guillermo Francisco Reyes, said that the installation of a temporary military bridge is viable after the collapse of El Alambrado, on the Pan American Highway, fundamental for the transport of cargo going to Buenaventura and the south of the country.
As part of the Ayacucho Operation, the National Army has been working since yesterday, after the unfortunate event of the collapse of the El Alambrado bridge in La Tebaida, Quindío, which connects the department of Quindío with the Valle del Cauca, where two members of the National Police died. Since the afternoon, 40 soldiers have been carrying out security tasks in the sector and in the morning hours of today, a technical team of the Engineer Brigade arrived, to establish if the elements and resources are appropriate to give an early solution to mobility in this sector of the country.
According to the Brigade of Engineers, if this semi-permanent bridge were built, it would be one lane and would have the capacity of 52 tons of cargo; its installation is an agile solution to this eventuality.
For its installation, there would be 40 men with technical equipment and yellow machinery and it would take approximately 15 days. The Minister of transport Guillermo Francisco Reyes arrived at the scene, who, accompanied by of the Government of Quindío, mayors of the hit municipalities, the Army, the National Police and relief agencies toured the scene of the events and thus visualize its magnitude and propose possible solutions.
Among the proposals, the head of this ministry, was attentive to the one presented by the Army Engineer Brigade, which he considers viable. “The Army has brought a very important service with a temporary bridge, the President of the Republic has said that he needs to reinforce this capacity of the Institution. In the same way, the Minister of transport recognizes the work of the National Army, for being there since the first moment, when this unfortunate event took place.
