The arrest of the individual was made in the urban area of Villavicencio, after three raids. $540,000 was found. The judicial operation is framed in the Ayacucho Campaign Plan.
After an intense investigation and follow-up, the Colombian National Army, in coordination with the United States Department of Security and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Colombian Prosecutor's Office, arrested by court order a man specialized in counterfeiting dollars.
The troops conducted a review of three properties in the capital city of Meta, which, apparently, would have been used for the adulteration of national and foreign currency.
In the place where the arrest finally materialized, more than 540,000 fake dollars were found by troops, in denomination of 50 dollar bills. In Colombian currency, this would represent about 2161 million pesos. A banknote printing machine was in the same way found.
The authorities suspect that the counterfeit money in Villavicencio would be being transported by different road routes to departments such as Cundinamarca, Vichada and Casanare. In these areas, it was sold in commercial activities. In this way, some criminal organizations would be committing crimes to obtain resources that help them finance illicit activities.
The arrested man will have to face charges of association to commit crimes and trafficking and manufacturing of national and foreign currency.
The Colombian National Army will continue to use all its resources to combat the crimes that hit the regional economy and facilitate the strengthening of illegal structures that commit crimes in the country.
