A member of the Arhuaco Indigenous community and his family were evacuated yesterday in a Colombian Air Force helicopter from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, after the man's state of health aggravated by respiratory complications and his life was at risk.
The appropriate maneuver was carried out in the UH-60 Black-Hawk helicopter, in Angel configuration, a mission that was escorted by Bell-212 aircraft, thanks to the coordination carried out by the National Personnel Recovery Center of the Colombian Air Force.
The expertise of the crews was fundamental to the success of the mission, taking into account significant risks, such as heavy winds or the height of the site, given that the evacuation was carried out at 3,600 meters above sea level.
This joint operation with the National Army was carried out at the Sierra Nevada and was destined for the Mechanized Infantry Battalion No.5, of the city of Santa Marta, where an ambulance was waiting to take the man to a medical center.
Thus, the Colombian Air Force protects indigenous communities, deploying aircraft as soon as possible to the most remote parts of the country, so that others can live.
