In 2021 the Colombian Air Force (FAC) has transported 697 people in evacuations and aeromedical transfers carried out with total success.
The most recent humanitarian transfer was made with a 58-year-old woman, who due to her complex medical condition urgently needed to travel from the capital city of Atlántico to the city of Bogotá, in order to initiate comprehensive medical treatment and access a high-risk surgical procedure.
This mission, the number 697 of aeromedical transfer this year, was carried out on board a Casa-295 type aircraft that departed from Barranquilla equipped with special medical elements.
The National Personnel Recovery Center, the institution responsible for conducting and leading the humanitarian operations carried out by the Air Force, coordinated the mission that led to the woman having a new life expectancy and initiating treatment through surgery.
“We are looking for a way to make her life normal (...) and we want her to go ahead”, were the words of María Isabel Blanco Castro, daughter of the patient diagnosed with morbid obesity, with an approximate weight of 220 kilograms.
The Colombian Air Force, with its National Personnel Recovery Center, has expert crews and more than 15 transport and ambulance aircraft, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, to carry out the required aeromedical transfers.
“These missions lead us to feel great satisfaction knowing that we are contributing to improve the quality of life and conditions of a Colombian. ( ... ) The Air Force has a staff trained to carry out these missions and ensure that people who have a difficult health situation and who require better medical assistance can move efficiently and safely to receive their medical treatment elsewhere,” said Major Yefferson Vera Escobar, pilot of the aircraft where the most recent humanitarian transfer took place.
