An aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC) will travel in the next few hours on a humanitarian flight that will carry aid for Palestine and back will transport Colombian citizens who were trapped in the middle of the war in the area.
The aircraft will depart the Military Air Transport Command (CATAM) in the afternoon bound for Egypt.
Last Thursday, October 19, President Gustavo Petro Urrego, after meeting at the Casa de Nariño with the ambassadors of Israel, Gali Dagan, and Palestine, Raouf Almalki, confirmed the sending of humanitarian aid destined for the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip.
"We will send an aircraft with humanitarian aid to the vicinity of Gaza waiting for a humanitarian route to be opened," the president said.
The Palestinian Ambassador to Colombia, Raouf Almaki, stated that the aid includes personal hygiene items, mats and other items, and thanked the support expressed by the Government of Colombia.
“More than water, more than medicines, more than food, more than anything, fuel,” the ambassador said and highlighted that "humanitarian routes must be opened so that the rest of the aid can reach the Palestinian inhabitants.”
Almaki said that the Gaza area is “without water, without electricity, without energy.” The most important thing, what they are asking for now, is to make an appeal to the conscience of the world. How can we keep working? We are running out of fuel.”
The Palestinian Embassy in Bogota thanked the Colombians for the help they received at the embassy and spoke about the items that are most needed.
“There are products that are difficult to transport from far away. Due to the high transportation costs from Colombia to Gaza, it is not recommended to donate products such as clothes, shoes and other materials, as their selection and shipment are complicated,” the diplomatic delegation said.
