* The drug was found in the framework of naval sea control operations within the maritime strategy that the Colombian Navy is conducting against illicit activities and transnational crimes.
* A part of the drug found was transported hidden in a double bottom built on one of the boats.
* So far this year, the Naval Institution has found more than 305 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, 13.2 tons have been found in the Archipelago, within the framework of operations coordinated with the other Military Forces and with the support of other countries
In the framework of naval sea control operations led by the Colombian Navy, 1,793 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 4.97 kilograms of marijuana and 4.87 kilograms of an unidentified pink substance were found by troops, which were being transported in two Go Fast type boats that intended to reach Central America.
As part of this maritime strategy, units of the Colombian Navy, with the support of the Colombian Aerospace Force and United States air platforms, monitored two suspicious boats transiting through the waters of the Archipelago. Once the course of the two contacts was identified, a Maritime Task Force consisting of naval units of the Caribbean Naval Force was deployed to intercept them.
In the first maritime interception operation, a suspicious Go Fast type boat was found, which was crewed by two Costa Ricans and a Colombian. Sailors of the Naval Institution secured the area and when doing the inspection procedure found 58 rectangular sacks with suspicious substance on the top of the boat.
Simultaneously, the maritime interception of another suspicious ship manned by two Colombians and a Costa Rican was carried out, who, upon realizing the existence of the naval units, started to escape. The quick reaction of the Navy men led to these arrests; the inspection of the ship was brought forward observing irregularities in the ship. Thanks to the experience, effectiveness and insight of the crew members, it was possible to detect compartments (double bottom) designed by these organizations to transport illegal goods and prevent detection.
