Units of the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Air Force, with the support of United States authorities, managed to find 583 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride that were being transported aboard a Go Fast type ship, in the waters of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
This result occurred when, jointly with the Naval Aviation of the Colombian Navy, an Aircraft of the Colombian Air Force and an Air Platform of the Joint Interagency Task Force of the United States Southern Command – JIRAFTS, carried out a detailed follow-up to a suspicious ship transiting through San Andrés waters with the intention of reaching Central America.
Once the course of the boat was identified, a Maritime Task Group consisting of the ARC Almirante Tono Missile Corvette and a San Andrés Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit was deployed to the area to carry out the maritime interception procedure.
The individuals who were crewing the suspicious boat, noticing the work of the military authorities, left the illegal cargo in the sea and escaped. Subsequently, members of the Colombian Navy Military Forces recovered 23 sacks with rectangular packages of the water, which were transported to the island of San Andrés, in order to carry out an exhaustive review process.
Already on land, the Approved Preliminary Identification Test to the substance contained in the packages was carried out, in coordination with units of the Judicial Police, leaving positive for 583 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
This shipment, which would cost approximately 10 million dollars in the international illegal market, was put into custody of the Colombian authorities for safekeeping and destruction in accordance with the provisions of Colombian legislation.
With the confiscation of this narcotic, more than 1.4 million doses of cocaine hydrochloride will not be marketed on the streets of the world.
