The findings took place in the waters of the Gulf of Urabá and Gulf of Morrosquillo.
Through these results, one and a half million doses of the drug were prevented from being marketed on the streets of the world.
Within the framework of two operations against the transnational crime of drug trafficking and its related crimes, the Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Coast Guard Group, seized more than 600 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, which were planned to be marketed abroad and would cost more than 20 million dollars.
The first operation was carried out on board an Italian-flagged maritime transport cargo ship, after learning of the possible cocaine contamination of this boat, which was heading towards Turbo - Antioquia. Sailors of the Coast Guard Station of Urabá made a search on the boat, during the transit of entry to the anchoring point in Bahía Colombia - Gulf of Urabá, finding inside 18 sacks with rectangular packages, similar to those used for the trafficking of narcotic substances.
The illegal merchandise was taken to a safe harbor, where officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, determining that it was 450 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. The material was put into custody of the authority. No arrests were made during the operation.
In the second maritime patrol and control operation, carried out by units of the Colombian Navy, 151 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were found by troops, which were being transported on board a Go Fast type boat, which was sailing 30 nautical miles from Isla Fuerte, in the Gulf of Morrosquillo.
The result was given due to receiving an alert about a suspicious ship in the area, so Coast Guard units from Coveñas initiated the pursuit and intercepted the boat manned by three people, one Colombian and two Panamanians.
During the search, in which several fuel barrels were found by troops, Coast Guard members identified modifications to the hull of the ship. These alterations showed a double bottom, a technique frequently used by criminal groups for drug trafficking at sea.
The boat was taken to the dock of the Coast Guard Station of Coveñas and in coordination with the Criminal Investigation Section – SIJÍN, one was carried out in which 153 rectangular packages with cocaine hydrochloride were found by troops hidden. The illegal merchandise, the arrested personnel and the found ship were placed at the put into custody of of the authority.
Through these findings, organizations serving the international narcotics trade are directly hit, denying the entry of approximately 20 million dollars into their criminal structures.
