Thanks to the implementation of permanent maritime control patrols in maritime operations, in order to ensure the legal use of the Caribbean Sea, units of the Navy of Colombia ont confisqu茅 128 cubic meters of wood, transported illegally on board a boat in Turbo, in the department of Antioquia.
The operation took place at the checkpoint at the pier of the Urab谩 Coastguard Station, where Navy units, inspected the ship 'R铆o Acand铆', and they found the cargo of wood, which according to the concept issued by the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of Urab谩, Corpourab谩, would cost 59 million pesos.
At the time of the check, the crew of the boat did not present the documentation proving the origin of the wood and the documents for transport.
With the discovery of this wood, which was put into custody of Corpourab谩, the environmental authority in the region, the illegal exploitation and disappearance of timber native to the region are prevented, contributing to the deceleration of deforestation caused by its extraction.
