There are already seven areas of the canyon that have been cleared by humanitarian demining.
With the decontamination of more than 2,000 square meters, the National Army conducts the cleaning of the canyon Las Hermosas, one of the most emblematic places of the department of Tolima.
To date, the military personnel of the Humanitarian Demining Engineers Battalion No.2 have decontaminated 185,203 square meters, completing seven areas free of suspicion.
This time, the Bicentenary Heroes in an arduous work that lasted more than two months could eliminate the threat that menaced an area of the municipality of San José de Las Hermosas, municipality of Chaparral.
Although no explosive devices were found at the site, the soldiers cleared the area that had been abandoned eight years ago.
Information of the inhabitants says that the recovery of that area will led to strengthen the ecotourism in the department, because the visitors and themselves will be able to observe ecosystems of páramo, ride in livestock, mule cattle, bird watching, among others.
The clearing of the zone benefits near 50 families that work in agriculture and soon they will undertake projects of tourism in the region.
We continue conducting operations to have Tolima free of suspicion of contamination of antipersonnel mines.
