During operations carried out by Navy Infantry troops, the Colombian Navy, in coordination with environmental authorities, recovered 93 wild animals in the departments of Bolívar and Sucre.
The first operation was carried out in the San Juan Nature Reserve, in the municipality of San Juan de Nepomuceno, department of Bolívar, when a group of hunters, noticing the activity of the navy troops, left the place leaving behind the cages and baskets containing a sloth bear, 28 turtles and 49 birds of different specimens, including blue jays, papayeros and parakeets, which were being held in captivity without any consideration for their good physical condition or well-being.
In the same way, in the municipalities of Sincelejo and San Antonio de Palmito in Sucre, the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1 carried out two operations in which a baby, a rabbit, a turtle and 12 birds were recovered, which were allegedly being traded illegally.
The recovered specimens were handed to the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Dike–CARDIQUE Canal and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Sucre - CARSUCRE, who after verifying the good health of each of the animals, rescued them into safe areas constituted as their natural habitat.
