Nineteen birds victims of illegal trafficking found in the city of Neiva, were rescued, transported and released to a nature reserve in the municipality of San Martín, department of Meta, where they will continue the recuperation process, thanks to the work conducted by the Colombian Aerospace Force, Regional Autonomous Corporation of Alto Magdalena and Corporation for Sustainable Development of the La Macarena Special Management Area.
Air Combat Command Crews No.4, in Melgar, Tolima, carried out the planning to ensure that the transfer of the wildlife specimens, initially recovered by members of the Military Forces of the National Police of Colombia, was done in optimal conditions without hitting their life and good physical condition, for the a safe landing at the Vanguardia airport of Villavicencio, where CORMACARENA professionals were waiting for them, to take them to their new habitat.
Five hours of flight were necessary for the seventeen macaws and two parrots, by air and by land, to reach the reserve that will be their habitat, there they will continue with the recovery process that they started at the temporary home of the Corporación del Alto Magdalena, where they received assistance and assessment by a group of professionals, including: veterinarians, zootechnicians and biologists, to contribute to the final goal, the liberation or release.
The successful transfer is proof of the constant commitment by the Colombian Aerospace Force and environmental institutions to preserve wildlife, giving the rescued birds a new chance at life, thus demonstrating the responsibility towards the conservation and protection of the environment, in order to promote biodiversity.
Taking care of the environment is everyone's duty and the Military Forces members are environmentally responsible.
