Due to the forest fire that occurs in the indigenous territory of the Wiwa community of the Sierra Nevada, the Colombian Air Force reached the Dibulla mountains, west of La Guajira, to face this emergency that threatens the inhabitants and their plantations.
With the Bambi Bucket system in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter of the Air Combat Command No.5, six water drops with more than 5,600 gallons of water and flame retardant have been carried out so far, over the flames that have already consumed more 800 hectares.
This operation is carried out with the Bambi system and a pool adapted to supply the water, with the aim of reaching hard-to-reach areas, providing support to relief agencies that on land try to control the flames.
The Colombian Air Force through Cacom-5 and Cacom-3, together with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management and the Dibulla Firefighters, work hard to eliminate the fire that hits more than 42 indigenous families. In the same way, they maintain the alert on this region until completely extinguishing the conflagration.
