In the course of a river inspection and control operation carried out by the Colombian Navy and the Peruvian Navy on the Amazon River, a Peruvian ship was found carrying a shipment of contraband liquor, produced in the region, which would cost more than 35 million COP.
At the river checkpoint in La Playa sector, municipality of Leticia - Amazonas, the staff of the Amazon Coast Guard Group and the Peruvian authorities inspected a ship, manned by a Peruvian man, finding inside 3 841 units of Brazilian liquor, including beer and cachaza of different brands and presentations, which they intended to market illegally in the triple border area.
The pilot of the ship did not carry a departure document certifying the port of origin and destination of the ship, and in turn, could not justify the origin of the goods, as he did not have the legal import certificates, tax declaration, or any documentation supporting the legality of the goods. The material was put into custody of the authorities.
The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the economic development of the region and will continue to intensify search controls and river control of the illegal economy. It in the same way invites people to denounce individuals and criminal organizations in the service of smuggling that commit crimes in the southeast of the country.
