The rescue of the cetacean, which had become entangled in a trammel net, lasted about three hours.
In a joint effort and synergy conducted by the Colombian Navy, the Mayor's Office of Bahía Solano, the Regional Autonomous Corporation for Sustainable Development of the department of Chocó - Codechocó, National Natural Parks and the community, a whale that was entangled in a trammel net was freed, which limited its navigation in the Utría National Natural Park, in the department of Chocó.
On Tuesday morning, some inhabitants of Bahía Solano notified the Colombian Navy and environmental authorities about the finding in the Utría National Natural Park of a whale that had a trammel net entangled in its body. According to the fishermen, they remove part of the trammel net, but they had to return to the coast for fuel reasons and to notify the authorities.
As soon as the situation was known, a unit of the Bahía Solano Coast Guard Station was sent to the area, which transported personnel of the Bahía Solano City Hall, Codechocó and National Natural Parks, with whom a search operation was carried out for the cetacean, covering the park for more than five hours, without any success.
The unit and the personnel returned to Bahía Solano to await new information on the sighting of the whale. A few hours later, people reported that the animal was by the mouth of the Utría inlet, in front of La Cuevita beach, where the Coast Guard crew arrived again to join in the rescue of the animal.
After three hours, and with the help of about 25 people of the area who tried by different means to free the whale, through established procedures to prevent harming it, the whale was successfully rescued.
