The individuals who were arrested simultaneously in different regions of the department were allegedly engaged in extortion activities and drug trafficking and selective homicides.
Thanks to the coordination of inter-institutional resources, it was possible to significantly strike the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, in the department of Sucre, with the arrest of 18 individuals, alleged members of the Uldar Cardona Rueda substructure, at the service of this Organized Armed Group.
After eight months of investigation, the Attorney General's Office issued the warrants for the arrest of these individuals for the crime of association to commit aggravated crimes for purposes of extortion and homicide, which got effective simultaneously in the municipalities of San Marcos, Caimito and San Benito Abad, in the department of Sucre.
Troops of the Colombian Navy, the National Army, units of the National Police and members of the Technical Investigation Corps-CTI-arrived in these areas, and after several raids, arrest these individuals who would be the main promoters of homicides and local drug trafficking in the sub-regions of la Mojana sucreña and San Jorge. In addition, they would be extorting traders, ranchers and rice producers groups, demanding 100 thousand and 10 million pesos a month to not attack their good physical condition and led them to continue to conduct their activities.
Among those arrested is alias Julio, military ringleader of the area of the substructure Uldar Cardona Rueda, this individual would have more than seven years in the service of this Organized Armed Group, where he allegedly coordinated extortions, local drug trafficking and selective killings to “fix accounts”.
In the same way, alias Niche Tobar, alias Corre Corre and alias Popeye were arrested; the first would be in charge of the finances of the substructure, while the last two would carry out hit-and-run activities.
During the operation, a shotgun-type firearm, a uniform used exclusively by the Military Forces and five cell phones were found by troops. Those arrested and the material found were given to a judge in order to continue with the respective judicial process.
With this operation the illicit sources of financing of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo will be hit, since it would be failing to receive approximately 170 million pesos per month.
