Troops of the Quiron Joint Task Force and the Eighteenth Brigade of Colombian National Army neutralized 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), apparently belonging to the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 10.
These devices represented an imminent risk and threat to the inhabitants who live in Tame, Arauca, as well as to the soldiers who carry out their mission.
With the objective of working to raise the protection of the inhabitants and maintain stability in the region, the troops of the Ground Operations Battalion N掳 30 found and destroyed in controlled conditions an illegal hiding place where 12 improvised munitions were hidden, and 2 means of launching.
These devices were hidden in a wooded area of the village Las Canoas, in Tame, Arauca, and would have been installed by the Uriel Londo帽o group, of the Structure 10 of the GAO-r Guadalupe Salcedo.
These devices were ready to be activated by means of an electrical system by command cable, which generated an imminent risk for the safety of those who transit and inhabit that region, as well as for the Military Forces. Therefore, using the resources of the explosives expert team EXDE, these explosive devices are destroyed in controlled conditions.
These illicit means and methods used by organized armed groups constitute a clear and flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits the indiscriminate use of improvised explosive devices. This is another example of the institutional commitment of Colombian National Army to provide security to the inhabitants and protect the lives of the Araucan people, thus demonstrating the important work that soldiers do in the region.
