This year, 1,300 explosive devices and anti-personnel mines, belonging to the different organized armed groups that commit crimes in the north-western part of the country, have been neutralized.
In military operations conducted by the National Army, with the aim of attacking and weakening the different logistical and criminal structures of organized armed groups, and thanks to the information provided by the Civic Participation Network, It was possible to find a site where individuals manufactured antipersonnel mines and explosive devices, in which they already had 563 units ready to be planted; according to information these explosives belonged to the 'Clan del Golfo'.
The discovery was made in the village Consejo Mayor in the rural area of Riosucio, north of Chocó, in limits with the Urabá region in Antioquia. There was a place where terrorists belonging to the substructure 'Roberto Vargas Gutiérrez' of the 'GAO Clan del Golfo' elaborated and hid these deadly devices.
This finding reveals the cowardly practice that this organized armed group is implementing, violating the principles and international agreements that prohibit the use of these elements. It in the same way prevents and neutralizes terrorist attacks that may hit the peasants and inhabitants of northern Chocó as Antioquia's Urabá region.
No arrests were made on the site, but operations continue on the area.
