In compliance with the guidelines issued in the Ayacucho Campaign Plan, troops of the Command against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, within the framework of joint, coordinated and inter-institutional military operations, through the Brigade Against the Illicit Exploitation of Mining deposits, the Joint Task Force Titan, the twenty-eighth Brigade, the Eighth Brigade and the National Unit against Mining and Anti-Terrorism of the National Police, conducted in the departments of Caldas, Chocó and Guainía, the intervention on 10 illegal mining production units in June.
With these military operations, it was possible to disable the machinery used for the illicit activity, valued at more than $8,300,000,000, with which, it was estimated, they extracted more than 33,600 grams of gold per month, with an approximate cost of $8,600,000,000 in illegal trade. It was in the same way possible to hit the illicit activities of organized armed groups and common crime at about $1,200,000,000 COP.
It is estimated that the recovery time of these areas hit by these environmental crimes is more than 40 years.
