Experts in handling explosives made two detonations which destroyed the runway and now is useless.
Troops of the Third Division of the National Army and the Colombian Air Force, along with the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, destroyed an airstrip in the municipality of Mercaderes, in the department of Cauca, used by groups that perpetrate drug trafficking that would be service of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Eln.
Thanks to intelligence work carried out by the Twenty-Ninth Brigade and the Air Combat Command No.7, it was possible to find an illegal airstrip 1,200 meters long and 45 meters wide, which was used for the entry and exit of small aircraft that would transport narcotics from the south of the department to Central America.
The search procedure was carried out under the direction of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office of the Specialized Directorate against Drug Trafficking in Cali, in the municipality of Curacas, where explosives experts subsequently proceeded to carry out two controlled detonations, left the track useless.
The destruction of this track directly hits the illicit activities of the GAO Eln, which stops receiving the money from the sale of narcotics, as well as preventing these substances from being distributed nationally and internationally.
