As part of a coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Navy and the National Police, alias Niche was arrested, who was allegedly the ringleader of the armed fraction of the Manuel José Gaitán Substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, in the department of Sucre.
In the operation carried out by troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.13 and of the Elite Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), attached to Navy Infantry Brigade No.1, with the support of officials of the Criminal Investigation Directorate and Interpol of the National Police, it was possible to find alias Niche, in the rural area of the municipality of San Onofre. When conducting the identity and judicial background check, the troops identified that the individual had an arrest warrant for the alleged crimes of association to commit aggravated crimes, for the purposes of homicide, trafficking carrying and manufacturing firearms, trafficking and distribution of narcotics.
According to the investigations carried out to date, the arrested who allegedly committed crimes in the San Onofre, in the High Mountains region, would be in charge of providing support in criminal activities, carrying out criminal intelligence to the military units of the region, in addition to coordinating logistical movements of military material, supplies and military accessories to maintain the criminal activity of this Armed Group organized in the Montes de María, in Sucre.
Alias Niche would be a fundamental piece in the security of the top ringleader of this substructure, and in charge of protecting the settlement and zones of this illegal group in the Montes de María region. The arrested man was put into custody of the specialized Prosecutor's Office 138 of Monteria.
