Heeding the call of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management -UNGRD- aircrews of the Air Combat Command No.3 of the Colombian Air Force, carry out constant aerial reconnaissance over the Nevado del Ruiz volcano monitoring the area, in order to maintain alert and prioritize protocols in case of emergency.
Overflights are carried out at more than 30,000 feet above the Nevado del Ruiz volcano with one of the surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft, type SR-560, which through the use of optronic systems, leads to obtaining real-time images of the behavior of this natural phenomenon, in order to provide useful information to prevention and relief agencies.
The crews and aircraft are in maximum preparation to provide support for this natural emergency, aiming for the safety of Colombians in case of being necessary.
The Air Force continues to work in coordination with the authorities, carrying out permanent overflights in the area, in order to react in a timely manner to face any eventuality.
