- Six tons of the drug were found by troops in a gigantic complex for the production of illicit substances, which provided more than 8 million dollars a month.
- A coca paste production laboratory was in the same way destroyed.
In a joint operation conducted by the National Army, through the Command Against drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats (Conat), the Third Division, the Colombian Air Force and the Technical Body of Research, CTI, in the village, El Decio, in the municipality of Samaniego, were found by troops six tons of cocaine hydrochloride and destroyed simultaneously three large illegal laboratories, each with a monthly capacity of production of one thousand or two thousand kilograms drug.
"President Duque declared war on drug trafficking and we, the Military Forces, relentlessly, work to weaken this evil that has afflicted Colombia for decades. Today, I want to announce to the country the most important blow to drug trafficking of the ELN this year, with the finding of six tons of cocaine hydrochloride, in Nariño, this is the blow that harms the finances of this drug trafficker and terrorist gang,” Defense Minister Diego Molano said Tuesday.
The details on this heavy blow given to the drug trafficking of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, ELN in the Operation Jared were given by the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, who was accompanied by the general commander of the Military Forces, General Luis Fernando Navarro; and Major General Juan Carlos Correa, commander of the Command against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats (CONAT).
The complexes were found by troops in the base area of the Comuneros del Sur Front, of the company Jaime Toño Obando, and consisted of 21 rustic structures, where six tons of cocaine hydrochloride were found by troops ready to be distributed, and also 433 kilograms of coca base paste.
For his part, the Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, said that "the cocaine, the machinery and other elements found, would exceed in value nine million dollars. The narcotic was ready to be packed and transported to the coast of the Colombian Pacific, in the border area with Ecuador, to be sent to Mexico and the United States.”
During the operation, 1,855 kilograms of solid precursors, 11,499 gallons of liquid precursors and 955 gallons of fuel were found by troops; machinery and equipment for the production of narcotics were in the same way found, which were put into custody of the authority for the respective judicial process.
The Minister of Defense reported that after this operation "12 million doses stop reaching young people in our cities and others around the world.” He added that ”this finding not only damages the gang's finances, but saves lives in one of the municipalities most hit by violence and collective homicides of young people."
This important result is the most representative of the first half of 2021 against the finances of the ELN, thus destabilizing the illegal income of this structure and its terrorist activity.
