In honor of the glorious history of the Colombian Navy and in commemoration of the 2023 Naval Bicentenary, an exciting Aquathlon was held and it brought together 350 athletes from all over the country. The event, organized by the Naval Institution and the Naval Social action; it was held at the Naval Logistics Base No.1 ARC Bolivar of Cartagena.
The Aquathlon, a discipline that combines swimming and athletics, it was a test of endurance and skill for the participants. The athletes faced a challenge of one kilometer of open water swimming, which started at the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo to go to the flotilla of submarines of the Colombian Navy.
The athletes had the unique opportunity to swim alongside the sailboats that make up the Sail Bicentenary Naval 2023, such as the ARC Gloria Training Ship, the ARA Libertad from Argentina, the Esmeralda Training Ship from Chile and the NRP Sagres ship from Portugal. Upon leaving the water, the participants undertook a 10 km race, crossing each of the components that make up the military complex.
The event had excellent coordination and security measures implemented by the organizers, working for the well-being of the participants. In addition, there was the support of valuable volunteers and sponsors who contributed to the success of this sports celebration.
The commemorative Aquathlon of the Naval Bicentenary of the Colombian Navy has left a legacy of self-improvement, companionship and sportsmanship, honoring the work and discipline of our sailors and strengthening the ties between sports people and the Colombian Navy.
