Apparently, the crew of the boat, noticing the work of the authorities, started to escape in another boat, leaving the passengers adrift.
Among those rescued are three Azerbaijanis, 12 Indians and 16 Venezuelans.
In 2024, 102 irregular migrants have been rescued in the Archipelago department.
During surveillance and control operations, the Colombian Navy through the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, jointly with the Colombian Aerospace Force, coordinated with the National Police and with the support of the community, rescued 31 people, since the boat in which they were traveling was abandoned by those who were allegedly driving them to Central America.
Once the alert was received, the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés sent a Rapid Reaction Unit to the reported location, northwest of the island. Noticing the work of the authorities, the individuals who were driving the boat went away, escaping in a boat that followed them closely and abandoning the passengers they were transporting.
The crew of the Naval Institution inspected the ship named Skin finding inside 31 people in an irregular migration condition: three Azerbaijanis, 12 Indians and 16 Venezuelans, including four minors.
It should be noted that the passengers were abandoned despite the adverse weather conditions that have occurred throughout the week in the department of the Archipelago, with forecasts of heavy storms and intense winds.
After checking the health status of the passengers, they were taken to the dock of the Coast Guard Station and put into custody of Migración Colombia. In the meantime, the minors were assisted by the authorities in order to work towards the restoration of their rights.
