This is Lieutenant Katherine Romero, of the Aviation Battalion No.5, of the Aviation Division of Air Assault, who with 26 years, three of them given to the aviation of the National Army, is one of the first women to hold the position of pilot. Today she is the first military woman to fly this aircraft and is a leader in the Vanguardia del Sur exercise.
Lieutenant Romero is the first military in her family, and opening this way in her home, she decided to leave a mark in history, pursuing with perseverance and dedication her long-awaited dream, to be part of the institution most beloved by Colombians and, even more than that, to serve her nation.
This Ibaguereña woman began her military life as part of the branch of Engineers, graduated in Military Sciences, and with a second degree as a logistics administrator, today she is an example for the new generations.
“It was not easy to pass each of these tests, but I managed to become a pilot,” these are the words with which this woman begins her flight. He prepares and approaches his team, a group of men who from the heights has been supporting the troops on the ground.
Today she proudly remembers the lives saved, and with nostalgia she brings the moments where she showed the strength of the military woman when she carried out different evacuations in Norte de Santander, a place that due to its geographical complexity demanded even more expertise in the flight.
This officer of the National Army continues to take her training as part of the Binational Exercise Vanguardia del Sur, a space where members of the Colombian and United States Army meet, in an exchange of Resources to continue fulfilling the mission.
