The Colombian Aerospace Force sent a C-295 aircraft of the Military Transport Air Command- CATAM in Bogotá, to transfer 135 animals from the Matecaña Airport, in Pereira, to the city of Cartagena.
The 135 animals, including 17 specimens such as turtles, owls, parakeets, macaws and parrots, were recovered in different operations of the Carabineros Police against trade and illegal possession in Risaralda and were returned to their natural habitat and others in transit houses in Cartagena, since specialized veterinary studies determined that their origin this region of the country.
The process of recovery, recuperation and rehoming of these 17 specimens was led by the biologists and veterinarians of the Autonomous Corporation of Risaralda-CARDER, with the support of the Military Transport Air Command, the APAP transit home and the Port Operator Matecaña Airport- OPAM, within the framework of the Noah's Ark- Caribbean destination campaign of CARDER.
The crew of the C-295 of the Military Air Transport Command and veterinarians of the CARDER, transported the specimens in wooden boxes, which led to reduce the stress of the animals by creating a visual barrier, protecting their limbs and maintaining the appropriate temperature to the destination place.
