Bolivar. In a joint operation with the Office of the Prosecutor, the National Navy managed to find machinery used in illegal mining work in the municipality of Turbana, in the department of Bolívar.
Troops of the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 12 and the Technical Investigation Corps of the Office of the Prosecutor, in the village "Bajo el Tigre" in Turbana, found a backhoe and a dump truck valued at 480 million pesos, which they would have used for the illegal exploitation of mining deposits.
In the operation, three individuals were captured and put into custody of the Prosecutor's Office in Cartagena for their prosecution for the crime of illegal exploitation of mining deposits.
According to preliminary information in the area this type of machinery is frequently used for illegal mining activities, causing irreversible damages to the environment and natural resources.
