Nariño. In recent hours, troops of the National Navy found an underground hideout in a rural area of the municipality of Tumaco, Nariño; it had more than one ton of cocaine inside. It is presumed that this drug would be being collected by Colombian drug traffickers to later send it to Central America, where its value would exceed 37 million dollars.
The events occurred when troops of the National Navy of the Task Force Against Drug Trafficking "Poseidon". The troops deployed in a sector known as Cabo Manglares, in the rural area of the municipality of Tumaco, in the department of Nariño, to verify the information of Naval Intelligence about activities related with drug trafficking in this area.
When arriving at the place, the military could find the drug that was hidden carefully in a zone of mangrove vegetation of difficult access; it had been packed to be sent later by sea.
The material was transported by units attached to the Pacific Naval Force to the municipal hall of Tumaco, in order to carry out the corresponding judicial process. There, officials of the Anti-Narcotics Judicial Police carried out the Preliminary Initial Test to the substance and found cocaine hydrochloride in 51 bags.
The drug (1010 kilos) costs more than 37 million dollars in the international market and it is presumed that it would be distributed in the United States.
