Bogotá. The goal of Soldier Omar Vanegas is clear: being accepted at the University of Lisbon, in Portugal, to study a doctorate in political science with specialization in strategic studies.
The Minister of Defense, Luis Carlos Villegas, who spoke with soldier Vanegas at the stand of the Escuela Superior de Guerra, at the International Book Fair of Bogotá, 2018, highlighted the work and academic effort of this 31-year-old man, born in Tibacuy (Cundinamarca).
"It's amazing that a Soldier comes so high. These are our members, who train and strive to understand what is happening in their country and, even being in the lowest rung of the Forces, they go forward," Minister Villegas said.
For his part, soldier Vanegas said that the reason he chose to study for a doctorate in political science was "to understand how the state and its political system are organized."
Omar Vanegas has been a Soldier of the National Army for 10 years, he is a professional in modern languages, speaks fluent Portuguese and he speaks Hebrew.
At this moment he is waiting for the answer of acceptance to his candidacy to the doctorate. Once accepted, the academic process will begin in Portugal, next September.
Minister Villegas attended the launch in Filbo 2018, of the publications 'Victories of the air: Memory and Context' and 'Victories of the air: socio-cultural and socio-legal debates', texts of high academic rigor and profound Methodological innovation, which were developed through the Context Analysis group of the Colombian Air Force.
