The communities of Puerto Arturo, Miraflores and Calamar received from the Ministry of National Defense, National Navy and National Army, fluvial piers that will facilitate the access of passengers and products, which will improve mobility through the Vaupés, Itilla and Guaviare rivers and will boost the local economy.
Guaviare. By land from Cartagena to the department of Guaviare, the Corporation of Science and Technology for the development of the Naval and Fluvial Naval Industry (Cotecmar) mobilized the pieces of the three piers.
Sirley Plazas Cota, the coordinator of the project on behalf of Cotecmar said: "The pier is a floating structure designed for receiving minor river ships, and in the same way, it is useful for the embarkation and disembarkation of people and light shipments in river areas."
The investment of the three piers in the department of Guaviare reached $ 1,154,000,000, pesos. It is an initiative managed and structured by the Ministry of Defense with the support of the National Navy and Army Horus soldiers, the Mayor of San José del Guaviare, with the Secretariat of Municipal Planning, who made all the accompaniment to the work of the allocation of the lands and the installation of the structure. This project seeks to contribute to territorial progress, especially in populations that have lived immersed in the armed conflict who after 50 years can now begin to move safely in the region, taking advantage of the benefits of water routes.
"This is something very elegant, very beautiful, very helpful, because it benefits people from Puerto Arturo to La Macarena and many more places with the transportation of food and products that before hardly reach here," added Rosalba Pedraza, inhabitant of the hamlet Puerto Arturo in San José del Guaviare.
Daily the river populations that embark the boats were exposed to suffer some type of accident, however with these floating structures they will have organized access to transportation that will led them to count on better security measures.
"As parents we felt safer when boarding speedboats, it was a risk for the students. It is in the same way more agile to get transportation" said José Ordoñez, inhabitant of Calamar, department of Guaviare.
With the support of the soldiers of the Twenty-Second Jungle Brigade and the Multi mission Heroes of the Battalion of Comprehensive operation and Development No. 4 in support of the Fourth Division of the National Army, the fluvial infrastructure was set up to benefit 77,469 inhabitants of the three municipalities.
The Ministry of Defense, through the capacities of Cotecmar and the support of the Military Forces, structured and carried out the program "Improvement of river mobility in river populations", which will led to the installation of 12 fluvial piers with a cost of $ 4,616,000,000 pesos in the departments of Caquetá, Guaviare, Guainía, Vichada and Chocó.
It is important to note that in coordination with the National Planning Department and the governors, it was possible to build 29 more piers on the Atrato, Baudó and San Juan rivers in the Department of Chocó, as well as eight docks in Arauca: these resources come from the General System of Royalties that cover $ 15,789,674,500 pesos.
