According to the investigations, this criminal organization could have collected close to 100 million pesos, as a result of extortion and deceiving.
Department of Antioquia. Thanks to the denunciations made by several people through the toll-free number 147, the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the east of the Fourth Brigade and its component of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, six individuals were captured in the Santa Cruz neighborhood of Medellín. These individuals supplanted agents of different international organizations. They pretended to be certified personnel in reparation of victims of the conflict and so provide benefits such as economic subsidies in exchange of a payment of one million pesos to accelerate the process.
With this modus operandi, this criminal organization, which operated in eastern Department of Antioquia and in the Aburrá Valley, in some cases, according to judicial authorities, managed to collect approximately 13 million pesos per family.
These six people extorted the money, according to Military Intelligence, of more than 15 families with the retention of their identification documents, which were subsequently used to generate credits and the purchase of electrical appliances, which caused an additional economic loss.
These six people, who were wanted by arrest warrants issued by the Special Prosecutor No. 53 Anti-Extortion and anti-Kidnapping, were put into custody of the judicial authorities for the crimes of aggravated extortion and conspiracy to commit a crime. This year, the units of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the East of the Fourth Brigade have managed to capture 100 people related to crimes of extortion and kidnapping.
