Among the individuals there are 12 officials of Invima an intermediary and a recognized businesswoman.
Troops of the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of Cundinamarca, of the Thirteenth Brigade, of the National Army, in coordination with the Attorney General's Office, capture 14 people including Invima officials, intermediaries and representatives of pharmaceutical laboratories, accused of designing a criminal structure that expedited permits and other procedures for the sale of products without prior scientific studies on their effects on the health of consumers.
The captures took place as a result of the alerts received from various institutions and users, as well as the collaboration of the director of the Colombian National Institute for Surveillance of Drugs and Food - Invima, which led to identify a network of corruption that streamlined the expedition and falsification of sanitary registries, which put at risk thousands of Colombians who acquired medicines, dietary supplements and beauty products without the proper scientific inspections, the correspondent analysis or their real composition, which would represent an attack against the life of the consumers.
The 12 Invima officials detained belonged to the directorates of health searches, medicines and biological products, medical operations, disciplinary control among others. Some of the operations carried out in Bogotá led to the capture of an intermediary and a well-known beauty products entrepreneur.
In addition, an arrest warrant was obtained for a businesswoman who owns two laboratories in Bogotá and Medellín, and now is a fugitive.
The individuals will have to answer for the offenses of conspiracy to commit a crime, illicit enrichment of public officials and private individual bribery, ideological falsification in a public document, among others.
