The observation satellite prepared by the Colombian Air Force (FACSAT-1) has been operated from the Aviation Military School by members of the Aerospace Technology Research Center (CITAE). During these first days, its capacities have been evaluated and monitored as well as its different operating systems.
The FACSAT-1 has generated a new field of the space development of the country, which helps to gain skills in science and technology to learn of the operation and maintenance of satellites in orbit, not only from the point of view of the mission, but in the same way from the point of view of the technical subsystems inside: GPS - Global Positioning, ADCS - Orientation and movement and WDE – Inertial Movement, among others as well as the system for the collection of images and their post processing for the detection of objects.
It is expected that in the coming days the FACSAT1 will initiate the sending of satellite images of the Colombian territory, taken through a camera with a resolution of 30 meters per pixel to contribute to evaluate and monitor our country and the urban development and also provide early assistance of natural disasters.
This is how the Military Aviation School through the CITAE, will be 24 hours in communication with the FACSAT1 from its Command and Control Station in which monitoring and review of its operation will be carried out by officers, non-commissioned officers and cadets of the Air Force.
