Huila. Soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineers Battalion n. ° 5 gave about 50 inhabitants of the rural area of the municipality of Tello, in the department of Huila, a land they had not been able to use for seven years.
During six months of continuous work, the mine clearance specialists intervened 10,896 square meters of the village El Cadillo, freeing them from contamination of antipersonnel mines, unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices.
During the investigation of the non-technical studies in the village, the community told the soldiers about their suspicions regarding the deadly traps, which, in addition to hindering the transit of the population, made it difficult to graze livestock.
The operation of the soldiers, who are guarded by troops of the Ninth Brigade attached to the Fifth Division, led to progress on the decontamination of a dangerous area where an antipersonnel mine was found and destroyed.
In this area of the country, the mine clearance specialists in the municipalities of Baraya, Colombia, La Plata, Neiva, San Agustín, Santa María and Tello, have worked in seven municipalities in which development and progress have been made.
