In the framework of the 'Diamante 2.0 Plan' and in operations against the transnational drug trafficking organizations that commit crimes in the Colombian Caribbean, the Colombian National Navy, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Nation and British, Spanish and Italian authorities participated in a coordinated manner to find 2,746 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride in Europe.
The ton of cocaine found in Genoa and Livorno (Italy) was inside several containers, aboard two merchant ships, which would have left the Gulf of Urabá in Colombia and, after stopping at these Italian ports, had as destination the port of Barcelona, in Spain, where they would be unloaded by drug trafficking structures of that country, to market it in the European black market.
The drug belonged to a drug trafficking structure associated with the Armed Organized Group GAO known as Clan del Golfo, which has contacts in several ports in Europe, where they send drug shipments.
It is estimated that the value of this cargo, in the international black market, is over 164 million dollars, a figure that thanks to this operation, will not enter the accounts of this illegal group.
During the operation, it was possible to capture a member of a transnational drug trafficking organization in Barcelona (Spain), which sought to receive narcotics.
This finding has been recognized by the Italian authorities as the largest in its territory, during the last 25 years of struggle against the situation of drug trafficking, and a successful operation thanks to the commitment of several nations, to make maritime trade activities safer to bring the progress for their people.
