In the ports of Buenaventura and Tumaco, the launching of the strengthening of security operations throughout the Colombian Pacific was carried out for the Easter season, by the Colombian Navy in coordination with the Harbor Managers of the General Maritime Directorate, the National Police and other government institutions, taking into account the increase of tourists during these days.
Holy Week turns the Colombian Pacific into one of the favorite destinations for many tourists who choose it as a place of rest and reflection. Therefore, the Navy, in coordination with the other State Security agencies and with the support of the community, has designed a Plan to guarantee the security and tranquility of the inhabitants and tourists.
This is why the maritime, land and river patrols have been intensified, with the deployment of troops and surface units and Coast Guard of the Colombian Navy in the north, center and south of the Pacific Coast, which comprises 1,300 kilometers of coastline. There is also a special attendance towards the five natural parks of the Colombian Pacific: Gorgona, Malpelo, Sanquianga, Uramba and Utria, and maritime and fluvial control operations in the departments of Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Nariño.
In the same way, pedagogical activities will be carried out, as well as accompaniment to crews and users of all types of boats in the main docks and boarding places, to remember the importance of the use of the elements of security, safety, communication, first aid and the compliance with all current regulations on the use of naval means of transport, to safeguard and preserve human life at sea.
The control operations are coordinated with institutions such as the General Maritime Directorate, the National Police, the Colombian Air Force, the Municipal Mayors, the transport, hotel and business associations in order to strengthen the communication channels necessary to react to any eventuality.
