The National Navy carried out a successful search and rescue operation, after receiving an alert call via cell phone, by a family member of the crew, who would have managed to report the sinking of a wooden rudimentary boat, in the sector of the Gulf of Morrosquillo between Coveñas and Tolú.
The boat 'Nodriza', would be at an approximate distance of 12 nautical miles from the coast and had a route from Lorica (Córdoba), to Cartagena (Bolívar), where the three people on board suffered the accident.
Immediately, an exhaustive search and rescue operation was carried out by the Coast Guard Units of Coveñas, carrying out different maneuvers at sea, to find the exact point where the three missing persons and their boat could be found. The operation was extended day and night, with the support of units and the information provided by the relatives of the disappeared, who had knowledge of the route of the ship.
Yesterday in the morning hours, Mr. Santos Bienvenido Grueso and Janer Yanes, aged 68 and 25 respectively, approached the Coast Guard Station of Coveñas, informing they were part of the three crew members of the boat reported as missing. They would have reach the shore, improvising a raft with the boat that was damaged, a person was still missing.
Finally, and taking into account the information provided by the crew members, the Coveñas Coast Guard Units found Mr. Freiman Montaño Vanegas, 69, who was shipwrecked in the sea with the remains of the boat. Then, they gave first aid and put him safely in the facilities of the Coast Guard of the National Navy, where the remains of the boat in the same way were transported.
