The eight-year-old boy had been kidnapped on July 11 by two armed men. Pressure of the troops led to obtain his return safe and sound.
Troops of the Sixth Division of the National Army through the Military Engineers Battalion No.27 'General Manuel Castro Bayona' and the Putumayo Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), carried out a territorial control operation, coordinated with the National Police and the General Prosecutor's Office of the Nation; they rescued an eight-year-old boy who had been kidnapped by two individuals last Thursday in the municipality of Puerto Asís, south of the department of Putumayo.
After the boy's disappearance was reported on July 11 around 11:30 a.m., when he was playing marbles out his house. Minutes later it was known by telephone, that the kidnappers demanded 150 million pesos in exchange for returning him safe and sound.
The child was found in neighborhood Colonia Leguizameña, where he was recovered by the troops and taken to the local hospital for an initial medical assessment, then he was given to his parents.
During the operation no arrests were made, however it is noteworthy that thanks to military intelligence and the help of the community, the troops continue working to put those responsible for this action into custody; the inhabitants of Putumayo repudiated this act.
