Thanks to an alert call, the search and rescue operation began and the lives of three men were protected. For more than 10 hours they remained adrift, after the ship in which they were transported had a breakdown in one of the engines, thus they lost the command and control of the boat.
The successful rescue took place near Chuchupa, where the Coast Guard Units of the Ballenas Station in Alta Guajira arrived to find the three fishermen, who were drifting.
At the time of the rescue, the military nurse of the crew, provided them with basic first aid and hydration, stabilizing the health conditions of the three men, and then transported them to a safe harbor, at the Coast Guard station dock of Ballenas.
